Kalimpong District Police, a Debate competition was organised amongst the college students of Kalimpong District

As part of the community policing initiative of Kalimpong District Police, a Debate competition was organised amongst the college students of Kalimpong District on the event of World Environment Day i.e on 05/06/2024. The objective of the competition was to hone debating as a skill for college students, while at the same time making them aware of the need to conserve environment. The event was graced by the Superintendent of Police, Kalimpong, Additional SP Kalimpong, Smt Devi Chettri, TIC Kalimpong Government College, along with other officials and teachers from participating colleges. We witnessed the participation of total three Colleges in the Debate:-1) Kalimpong Government College (2) Cluny Women's College (3) Government General Degree College, Pedong.The esteemed judges for the event were:-
(1) Mrs Sheila Rai-fudong, Retired teacher of Gangotri Higher Secondary School (2) Shri Sandip Jain, Editor of Himalayan Times and (3) Miss Priyadarshana Bhusal, Senior English teacher at Dr Graham's Homes, Kalimpong.The topic for the debate was “Punitive measures can only ensure the successful enforcement of environmental laws”. Each participant was given 05 minutes to speak, which was followed by a question from the opposing team. The result of the Debate was as follows:-FOR THE MOTION- 2nd Runner up:-Miss Josephine Basnet, 4th Semester, Sociology Department, Cluny Women's College. 1st Runner up:-Miss Jennifer Lepcha, 2nd Semester, Political Science Department, Cluny Women's College.Winner:- Master Gaurav Chettri, 4th Semester, English Department, Kalimpong Government CollegeAGAINST THE MOTION-2nd Runner up:-Miss Catherine Tamang, 2nd Semester, English Department, Kalimpong Government College.1st Runner up:-Miss Anusha Rai, 4th Semester, Sociology Department, Cluny Women's College.Winner:- Miss Salima Rai, 6th Semester, Zoology Department, Kalimpong Government College.
